The excitement of welcoming a newborn into your home can be sometimes be overshadowed by sleep deprivation, figuring out a routine, and trying to prioritize what needs to be done and when. This is where a postpartum doula comes in. As a trained professional, I offer postpartum services as needed. Those days when you just want to take a hot shower and then a long nap...Maybe you require some additional breastfeeding support or a nonjudgmental, listening ear. I am here for you!
As a military spouse, I understand the uncertainty of bringing home a newborn and not having support around to assist. Sometimes we can have support, but it may also come with unsolicited/unwelcome advice, expectation, or even demands. I did not know that doulas even existed for my first child, but living thousands of miles away from home, I sure could have used one. My own experience included having no breastfeeding support, having postpartum depression that was not diagnosed for two months, and just struggling to manage daily. Having a postpartum doula would have made all the difference in the world. Knowing what would have heave helped me is a big part of my drive to help other mothers to feel heard, supported, and able. The first days and weeks can be different!
